COPA President Jun Penaranda rendered a report on the Foundation’s 2023 operations during its Annual General Meeting held April 18, 2024 at the Parish Conference Center. Also in the same meeting, COPA Treasurer Mar Aguas presented the Foundation’s audited financial statements for the same year.
Among the highlights of the President’s Report and the financial statements are the following:
Total revenues for 2023 amounted to P16.1 million. These came from direct parishioner donations and fundraising activities such as the COPA concert and direct solicitation from parishioners during the Lenten, fiesta and Christmas seasons.
Total disbursements amounted to P15.3 million consisting of P12.5 million program disbursements, P1 million expenses related to concert and other fundraising activities, administrative expenses of P1.4 million, project support of P332,000 and P105,000 special occasion expenses.
On the operational side, COPA President Jun Penaranda reported that program disbursements remained at the same levels as in the previous year, with the flagship Adopt-a-Parish Program receiving P9.76 million. COPA currently has 240 adopted parishes, in 39 dioceses, which have been identified as among the most needy parishes of their respective dioceses. COPA”s financial assistance is used by the parishes for pastoral, catechetical, formation as well as leadership training and development activities for its parish community.
The next biggest chunk of disbursements went to COPA’s Social Action Ministry consisting of various forms of financial support for Elsie Gaches Boys’ and Girls’ Cottage, Marillac Hills, Tunasan City Jail, Phil. Jesuit Prison Service, Haven for Children, DVMI, Casa Miani, SOS Children’s Village, Pangarap Foundation and AJ Kalinga Foundation. Total disbursements for these programs was P2.67 million.
Other highlights cited in the president’s report were COPA Night, an annual gathering of COPA benefactors and mission partners for fellowship, the very successful COPA Concert featuring National Artist Ryan Cayabyab and his RC Singers, and the awarding for the second consecutive year of the St. James Parish Award to the parish that most creatively and effectively used COPA’s financial Assistance.
